My favorite part of being a pediatric nephrologist is the long-term connections I make with children and their families. Watching children grow and develop and helping support families is very rewarding. As a nephrologist, I treat patients with acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, incontinence, spina bifida and glomerulonephritis (inflammation of the kidney). I specialize in dialysis, kidney transplant care and renal biopsy. It’s fun to get to know kids and to explain medical information in a way that my patients and their families understand. I’m always learning from my patients. My goal is to work cooperatively to make decisions and to consider all aspects of children, not just their kidneys and urinary tract. I explain medical issues, evidence behind treatment options and the next steps for management clearly so we can work together to make a good plan.
